Disaster Risk Reduction Consultant – Maldives

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is seeking a home‑based consultant to strengthen the capacity of Maldivian organisations in tracking disaster‑related losses and damages across critical infrastructure sectors. The consultant will work closely with the National Disaster Management Authority of Maldives to deliver orientation, training and guidance on data collection, sharing and use.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake dedicated orientation sessions for organisations in the telecommunications and water & sewage sectors on tracking disaster‑related losses and damages.
• Conduct workshops and training for ministries, decision‑makers and technical personnel in transport, power, telecommunications and water & sewage sectors, incorporating a GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion) perspective.
• Develop a guidance note for data sharing among institutions in the targeted sectors, outlining methodologies and protocols for collecting, tracking and sharing disaster loss data.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience in disaster risk reduction, climate change or a related field.
• Proven experience implementing projects in coordination with government institutions in the Maldives.
• Experience in capacity development on DRR issues.
• Experience working with data on disaster‑related losses and damages.
• Fluency in English and Maldivian (Dhivehi).
