Associate Communications Officer

About the role

The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Male, Maldives is seeking an Associate Communications Officer to support the implementation of communication strategies that promote the UN development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. Reporting to the Head of the Resident Coordinator Office, the incumbent will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure coherent and impactful messaging.

Key responsibilities

• Gather insights from traditional, social and digital media monitoring to inform communication strategies and identify reputational risks.
• Assist in drafting narratives, messages and content for various UN platforms and audiences.
• Support media mapping, outreach and relationship building with both traditional and new media outlets.
• Develop media statements, including crisis communications and sensitive issue handling.
• Coordinate press conferences, briefings and other media events.
• Act as spokesperson for the office when required.
• Collaborate with the Crisis Management Team and contribute to training activities in communications.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of UN development priorities and the 2030 Agenda.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience in media relations and public information activities.
